Cemetery culture is a special cultural phenomenon, which reflects not only human cognition and attitude towards death, but also various thoughts and beliefs under social, historical and cultural background. From the Angle of historical origin, this paper discusses the origin and development of cemetery culture.
1. Ancient tomb culture
As early as in ancient times, human beings have started the rituals and funerals of death. With the development of society, people began to rely on the burial culture to express their remembrance and remembrance of the deceased, and also began to try to express their cognition and exploration of life and death in different ways.
In ancient times, the tomb culture can be traced back to the Yangshao culture and Longshan culture in the late Neolithic Age. During this period, people began to build simple tombs in which the bodies of the dead would be buried, and some offerings and funerary goods would be prepared for the dead for use in the afterlife.
With the passage of time, the ancient Chinese tomb culture has gradually developed into a cultural phenomenon with unique characteristics. From the funerary objects in the Han tombs, the murals in the Tang Dynasty, to the stone carvings and archways in the Ming and Qing dynasties, the ancient Chinese burial culture showed different features and characteristics, reflecting the historical and cultural background of the society at that time.
Second, the origin of modern cemetery culture
The origins of modern cemetery culture can be traced back to 19th century Europe. At that time, due to the acceleration of urbanization and rapid population growth, cemeteries continued to spread around the city, putting great pressure on the green area of the city, but also causing environmental and health problems. To solve this problem, Europe began to explore the possibility of building modern cemeteries.
The history of cemetery culture dates back to the early days of mankind. In primitive societies, people usually buried their dead in primitive tombs at or near their homes. These tombs are usually simple pits that can hold only one or two people. However, with the development of society and the progress of civilization, the size and design of tombs also changed. With the progress of modern civilization, people begin to realize the importance of cemetery management. In the 19th century, cemetery culture underwent an important transformation. During this period, people began to build modern cemeteries, adopt the design concept and management method of public parks, and plan and design cemeteries as part of urban green space. This design concept not only meets the burial needs of people, but also provides a beautiful, quiet and comfortable environment for people to remember the deceased.
